We see many businesses apply 5S mechanically, in the form of a one-time movement, or follow the slogan: the motto of the morning is to chant the slogan of screening, sorting, clean, caring, ready sieve. But most of them could not be maintained.
Firstly, businesses should review what they do 5S for, and why? Is the benefit greater than the effort?
Immediate benefits? Clean, tidy, remove a pile of long-standing inventory
The long-term benefits and part of the lean system – lean manufacturing:
– Industry specific: what industry are you working in, and what is important to your industry?
– Who are your customers and are they interested in being clean and tidy in your factory?
– Who are your workers and where are they aware of a clean work environment? Improving the working environment will improve labor productivity, but to a certain extent if the working environment is improved, productivity will not increase.
– How many resources do you have and what needs to be prioritized from time to time? Then 5S will be in different positions at different times.
When I understand and answer these steps, I will show you how to do 5S effectively:
Step 1: sift: the square like your factory, warehouse, office.
Step 2: Split the square in half: Necessary and unnecessary will be discarded
The necessary parts we need to sort by: what, where, the amount needed.
Step 3: Set a specific standard for each, every place, every place
Step 4: Create Audit team, audit form
Step 5: Establish rules about who is in charge of which area.
Good luck!
